In this episode, both Kara and Deja have family obligations to attend to, however, that doesn't mean there isn't going to be a good show. Ed has brought in a special guest, his oldest daughter Elara.
At the old age of 15, Elara sheds light on the growing issue of social media and fad diets and how they are affecting teenagers today and especially girls. While social media and fad diets were designed to revolutionize social understanding and overall health, when implemented, they work together to create a world of self-image issues, body dysmorphia, and litany of eating disorders. Eating disorders is one of the leading cause of deaths among teenagers and it seems that there is no solution in sight as to how the problem can be fixed.
Elara will take you into the mind of a teenager facing these problems and tells her story of recovery, which started when she was in the second grade!!! More importantly, Elara explains how eating disorders can affect families and friends on top of being detrimental to one's own health.
While the problem of teenage eating disorders continues to grow, Elara explains how to climb out of this mental prison and that everyone can achieve recovery. Lastly, happiness is not what you see in the mirror, but who you surround yourself with and how you can improve yourself by improving others.
This episode is a little emotional, but worth a listen; especially if you're a teenager or the parent of teenager struggling with the difficulties of being a teenager in this day and age.
