Hey everyone! After a brief hiatus, Ed and Kara are back with a new episode for the benefit of your ear meat...
In this episode we go back to the 80's computer technology, radiation therapy machines, and Demigorgons were all the rage. While Hawkins Indiana was being destroyed by an interdimensional being with serious "daddy issues," The Atomic Energy Canada Limited released the all knew and highly sophisticated radiation therapy machine called Therac 25 to treat cancer. This machine was the first of its kind where it was now operated by a computer because humanity developed a fear of turning nobs and stuff. Marketed at the safest radiation machine ever, it came as a shocker when people were suddenly being zapped with 15,000 to 20,000 rads of radiation... which seems a tad overkill to be honest.
Also for the first time Ed and Kara has a guest onboard. A legit radiation dosimetrist, which is a fancy name for someone who shoots people with radiation to reduce or kill cancer. In this episode Cameron Beatty will help everyone understand what happened with this machine, why it was malfunctioning, and why 15,000 to 20,000 rads of radiation is too high (most treatments involves 7 to 10 rads, you can't even cook a cup of instant noodles with that), and how this sort of issue doesn't happen today.
